Andy’s Update

In a month’s time the waiting will be over. We’ll be unwrapping presents, eating lots of food, enjoying (or enduring!) time with family; we may feel relief that the end of Christmas is in sight. Some of us might be worrying about how we’ll pay for the presents. Perhaps the biggest danger is that in the maelstrom we wake up on Boxing Day and realise that we’ve forgotten the whole point of this glorious season of Advent and Christmas. The trend for luxury ‘Advent’ calendars (some costing hundreds of pounds), containing, behind each window, trivial or expensive gifts that have no connection with Christmas, demonstrates the absolute power of commercialism in our culture. Let’s resist the temptation to be swept up by it all. Let’s get ready for Christmas, but make a concerted effort not to forget the one whose extraordinary incarnational love is truly the reason for this season.

Weekly Prayer Guide

Growing in God

Today the Church marks Christ the King Sunday. This week, take time to ask God afresh to rule in your mind, will and heart, praying, “May your will be done in me.”

Loving each other

This coming season is a difficult time of year for many people. Pray for those within our church community who are struggling and find a way to share God’s love with them.

Serving our community

Pray for all the Christmas events over the next month. Pray about whom you might invite to some of these. Pray that this would be a time when new faith would spring up.

Bible Verses of the Week

I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” The doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

“Woe to me!” I cried. “I’m ruined! I am a man of unclean lips, living among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”

One seraphim flew to me, touched my mouth with a live coal and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is removed and your sin atoned for.”

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us? ”

And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”.
